Sayings about growing older

This blog post is dedicated to growing older. We had 2 birthdays in our house this week and we have celebrated in style! The pictures posted are all new ones taken in the last 2 weeks and the sayings are from one of those emails that was recently forwarded to me!

The best antique is an old friend. These friends have been through life with me, starting in the church nursery as toddlers through high school and consistently standing beside me through each stage of life. I treasure them so much.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a
nice change from being young. Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old
is comfortable.
Not only am I comfortable with my old friends but I bought the same dress in 2 colors because they are extremely comfortable and that is what really matters now that I press on in life!

Speaking of being comfortable, this friend here is one I can always be comfortable with. She is a testimony of what a true friend is!

Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you can only spend it once. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. James 4:14 NKJV

I can only hope that these little girls will grow up and my life will have impacted them in a positive way as my grandmothers' lives did in my life.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to
know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads
weren't paved.

The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he can tell when he's
really in trouble...
exception being when you are with your grandmother and that middle name is the same as your grandmother's!

When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth, think
of Algebra.

Grow old along with me the best is yet to be.
My husband likes to remind me of life before we met. He is right, I would not go back to my youth or Algebra for nothing.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
this was rather humorous after receiving 2 identical birthday cards this week = I think my friends and family are trying to tell me something = maybe that I have a lot of fun laughing or maybe something else!

Lord, Keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth!Even though you can not see her very well here, I love this picture because Lily Kate has her sweet little hand on my shoulder and she did that naturally. I also love it because we don't have many pictures of the 3 generations of us girls together.

deleting

Deleting is such a powerful thing to do. If only we could delete some of our mistakes in life, right? There could be a mini sermon on that right here on my blog but I am not going to take the time or space to do that because my blog is about "Lolli's loves" and I don't necessarily like to talk about my mistakes (there have been plenty). However I have learned a bunch from my mistakes and I am ok to admit that. I also do love this delete button on the computer! And I totally prefer to blog about my loves and had to make some photo space in order to do that. After spending about an hour today deleting old photos from 2008 so I could add some new ones to this blog, I feel like I cleaned out a closet or two..if only I had used that time to really clean out a closet or 2 :)...
ok, I look forward to soon sharing on the blog from my time with the Girls' Weeks this summer. I had so much fun with both the big girls and the little girls. I also had a birthday this week and have a few fun photos to share about that too. I will be around this week. For now I need to download a few new photos. Happy weekend to whomever is reading with me! And I hope you are enjoying your delete button as much as me!

Some favorite Luau pics

There were some people who were in rare form at the Luau:

and this picture with the trees in the background makes Lee look like a giant doing the hula hoop! Well, he is sort of a giant :)

speaking of rare form, Gregarina was hilarious during our skits!
even the toddlers were laughing at his cheerleading!

Knox at the Luau

Knox and his mommy and daddy arrived the night before the Luau. He was flying high as the center of attention and rightly so!

Babies are so much fun to watch at these family get togethers and Knox certainly was adored by everyone but especially the big girls at the Luau this year. They were so eager to hold him but the crowd was a bit overwhelming.

Here are some of my favorites of Knox at the Luau:

please note what is in Knox's hand after the pinata broke and the cool dude open shirt style with beads!

Lolli loves this baby boy!

Built for two...

One day earlier this summer I was sitting with a few of my elderly friends playing mexican dominoes and one of them started singing Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer....I'm half crazy all for the love of you....
anyhow if you don't know the song, it is all about a bicycle built for two. One thing led to another and I found out this couple had an old tandem bike buried deep in their garage. They were most excited for me to get it out and use it for some of my summer activites.

the older granddaughters had fun with it during their week with us but they were not quite big enough to control the front seat so either Jack or I ended up riding with them. We got our exercise that week :) Those bikes are not easy!
during the Luau, we put it out for the mamas and daddys to get some fun out of it too. Uncle Jeff and Corey had a nice ride.

Jessica and Joey had a fun ride too.
You just never know what Lolli and Pops might pull out during a Luau.

My fun getting ready for the Luau

I start preparing for the Luau the same way lots of you start preparing for Christmas! Weeks before (actually months before with plans)! So I thought I might share some of my "pre-Luau" fun I had. I got the idea to have the grandchildren paint a fish to hang as part of our decor from a popular restaurant in town called "Niffers". They have wooden fish hanging everywhere that are painted by students in town. So Pops cut out the wooden shapes for me and during each of the grandchildren's visits this summer I had them paint their own fish. I had to paint some of the littlest ones who did not come to Lolli Camp and I helped with some names on the opposite side but for the most part the kids all enjoyed being part of the decorations.

Next year we will each make a new one and add to the collection of fish hanging!

I had fun making some cupcakes this year too. I have this love-thing for bluebirds so right after Easter I saw the blue peeps and bought a few packages and froze them. Not only did they make a few grandchildren smile and make a big chocolate mess but they complimented my theme with the Go Fishing Prizes, the bluebird water whistles (which the parents did NOT like!) I have a few that will be enjoyed ONLY at Lolli and Pops house:)

I really had fun making these monkey cupcakes!
You can see I used minature oreos for ears, vanilla wafers for the mouth, and reeses pieces for the eyes along with lots of chocolate icing and a little white icing too.

A bunch of monkeys need some bananas, don't they? I used candy "runts" for the banana decorations along with a few chocolate sprinkles.

Mercy, I had so much fun getting ready this year!

Where do I begin

I am kind of having trouble blogging lately -not from a lack of what to say or what to share but where do I begin. SO MUCH has taken place here at Lolli and Pops lately that my blogging can't capture it all and facebook is really a whole lot easier to just put the pics out there. Oh well, here is a start with the water balloon fun we had!
These kids have been loving the water balloons every year at the Luau and I am talking big kids as well as little ones and the big big kids too! If I was to tweek it in anyway or minimize the activites I know the water balloons would be 1st to remain.
Kimberly helped me capture some great shots of everyone.
Each year I take pictures while everyone else gets wet. They all know I am off limits with a camera in my hand but this year Pops was their target after the big lineup dwindeled down to 4.

Funny moment when Chad's balloon burst on Jessica's foot!

It was down to Jessica and Regan and Corey and Greg as the winners.

Fun time out there and no one minded getting wet this year.

Oh yeah, Pops managed to stay dry even though a few grandkids tried their best to bomb him several times :)
