Day 1 of Nicaragua Mission Trip

It is great to be home and to have wonderful stories and memories to tell about my mission trip to Nicaragua this past week.
Our team of 19 seniors (they called us older adults but we all fit into the category of AARP + age ranges!) We were a splendid combination of personalities, talents, energy, and faith.
This precious child was my buddy at our 1st outting at a worship service Sunday morning. Some children were dressed in their very best and some were in rags at this particular place. All were dressed in enthusiasm and curiosity to see what this bunch of "ants" had to say and bring to them. By the time those 120 children left our Sunday School session that morning, they were all dressed in love :)
They loved playing music to combs and wax paper as well as all the other games and things we did. It was a challenge to squeeze our 3 hour VBS program in to an hour or so the 1st morning of our trip but as the week went on we fine tuned just about everything we did and became very flexibile with each place having it's own challenges to our group.
That afternoon of our 1st day , we were introduced to some of the orphanage children from El Ayudante where we stayed in Léon, Nicaragua and we got to take them to their downtown café where there was ice cream and frozen drinks. In 95°+ hot weather (real feel 105°)it was a special treat for our team but we did not have any idea on that first day just how bad the heat would be. The orphanage children were a little shy and reserved around us at first but by the end of the week we had a wonderful experience with them of which I will tell later in the blog.It will take me a week to select my pictures to tell you the highlights so these are just a few to let you know I am home, well, overflowing with blessings, and so very thankful I could be a part of this team and trip.
ps. It is so good to have a shower with hot water and a breeze in the air I never thought there would be a day when I longed for a cold shower but down there I did and some days took 2 when we had time!
