We thought we were going to get on a boat that lazily took us down the river and see all kinds of birds and animals! Boy! Were we ever surprised to be taken in a jeep about 45 minutes away to a river bank side and put into a small raft with 2 Costa Rican guides. And boy were we even more surprised when we were handed a paddle, a life jacket and told to prepare for class 2 rapids!!! There was no going home so to speak at this point! I must say Madge and I had the ride of our lives on this adventure! We loved it and had a holy fit when we came upon howler monkeys swinging from the vines and trees along the river side. Our guides stopped the raft and pulled over to the side and let us gawk and snap for a good 15 minutes! We were in monkey heaven. The trees were huge so we literally had to lay down on the raft to see them well.
This guide spoke a little english, which helped a lot!
Then 3 little Costa Rican boys came out from the trees swinging from ropes and swam over to try and get into our raft! Our guide firmly told them (in spanish of course) not to get us wet :) They enjoyed watching the monkeys with us, though. What a true authentic experience we had of the jungle life!
Look way up in the trees to see the black monkeys looking down at us.
There's a tail of one in the trees :)
Our guide sliced open a fresh pineapple on top of his paddle and served us this fresh snack on the ride down the river.(we saw many pineapple plantations on the countrysides)
You did not see any pictures in this post of us going over the rapids because we were holding on for dear life and safely guarded our cameras from the splashes we endured. Well, that takes care of my adventurous spirit for a while! fun, fun , fun!
