About an hour away from where we worked and stayed in San José, Costa Rica, was the Irazu Volcano. If you go very early in the day, you can see both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea at the same time from the height of the volcano. It is Costa Rica's largest volcano at 11,080 feet. The last time it erupted was 1963. So our team of 18 rode up the mountain very early to see it before we were to go to the Costa Rican Worship Service. It was cool and we all enjoyed seeing it as well as a funny little animal hanging out up there.
Part of being on a mission team is the bonding that takes place between people before you even start working together. This outing at the beginning of our week proved to be a great way to strengthen our diverse group of 3 generations.
This one little bird just stood so still on the only greenery up there long enough for us to capture his presence at tip of the volcano!
My dear friend, Madge, and I roomed together on our first mission trip in Ecuador 2 years ago. We had so much fun again on this trip to Costa Rica together!
This little fellow is kinned to a coyote + a cat + a raccoon. He is either a coatimundi (called pizote locally) or a mapache. I have not yet confirmed his true identity but he hangs out around the volcano, seemed harmless and came right up to anyone who would feed him!
Last but not least, we walked upon these hearts ♥♥ drawn in the dirt at the volcano. Another "heart message" to our team. Who would have thought we would see one way up here!
